FITNESS BOOKS
Disuse atrophy is a condition where your body starts to deteriorate because of non-use. The less your body does, the less it will be capable of doing. Fitness books can better explain this phenomenon, but it basically comes down to this: Use it or lose it!
You don’t have to read a fitness book to get in shape, but unless you have a personal trainer, a fitness book can be helpful in getting you started on the road to wellness and a longer life. If you follow the advice in your fitness book, not only will you start feeling better, your mental outlook will also improve, along with your self-confidence.
Exercising can help alleviate the following medical problems:
- Hypertension
- High cholesterol
- Osteoporosis
- Diabetes
- Low back pain
- Anxiety
- Depression
No one exercise regimen will work for everyone, so check out a variety of fitness books to find a workout suitable for you. Here’s a sampling of the fitness books published by Basic Health Publications:
Atomic Fitness, by Steve Michalik, utilizes the basic theories of physics — energy, matter, space and time — to help people change their physiques in the shortest time possible.
Exercise for Your Muscle Type, by Michelle Lovitt, describes workouts that exploit the unique combination of muscle fibers you possess — fast-twitch (responsible for explosive, powerful movements) and slow-twitch (used for endurance events such as running).
The Fitball Workout, by Jan Endacott, shows the extraordinary range of exercises that can be performed with a fitball. Not only are the exercises safe, low-impact, and enjoyable, they improve balance, increase flexibility and improve coordination.
Nutrient Timing, by John Ivy, explains why "when" you eat may be more important than "what" you eat. Readers learn how they can sculpt a better body with more lean muscle mass, less fat and more power without changing their exercise program or caloric intake.
The Pilates Difference, by Jennifer Dufton, demonstrates why Pilates is one of the most effective forms of exercise for improving stamina, coordination, strength, general health, vitality and concentration.
The Power of Yoga, by Vimla Lalvani, is based on Hatha and Kalari yogas. Not only is yoga a wonderful way to counteract the stresses of daily living, it’s a great way to get in shape. Readers learn all they need to know to perform the postures well, and to understand each one’s underlying purpose, and what benefits to expect.
