DIET BOOKS

Diet books are always near the top of best-seller lists because most people want a diet that works fast, is painless, and is easy. And they hope their new diet book is the answer. Well, most people are going to be disappointed with their new diet book. Sure, the plan offered in the diet book will work if you follow the advice, but sooner or later the dieter will get fed up with the whole thing and go back to “real” food.

All diets work — if you burn off more calories than you consume. The first step to losing weight and keeping it off is to appreciate that this is a life-long effort. The quicker you lose weight, the quicker you’ll put it back on. That’s because when you lose weight fast, you’re really losing just glycogen and water, not fat.

A good diet book will stress the importance of exercise. Generally you need about five 30-minute sessions of exercise a week. A brisk walk qualifies as exercise, so there’s no excuse for sitting out this part of a diet plan. Good diet books will offer their own exercise plan, so when you’re looking for a diet book, make sure you explore this part of the book to see if it’s something you’d like to try.

There is no one right diet for everyone. That’s why there are so many diet books out there! The editors at Basic Health Publications offer a variety of diet books that are based on sound scientific principles. Here’s a look at a few of them:
